Memorial Park
Memorial Park was Chingford's first municipal park, laid out in the 1930s on an irregularly shaped site surrounded by early-20th century residential streets. The park incorporated an already existing sunken Garden of Remembrance that had been created by public subscription as a memorial to those who lost their lives in World War 1. The park included tennis courts, a bowling green and a Pavillion.
Today in Memorial Park you can expect to find an ornamental pond, a large open space ideal for games and picnics, a large under 5s and 12s play area, a medium sized bowling green and four tennis courts.
The park has two entrances. The main entrance is on Chingford Mount Road and the other is on Ainslie Wood Road. This entrance through the original 1930s gates leads directly to the small memorial garden before the park opens out. A small area of formal planting surrounds a small pond with a fine willow, and a sculpture by Jack Gardner.
